Cutlass Supreme!

Ah!
I have the greatest Aunt and Uncle ever!

When I started making plans to come to Calgary - one of the first things I did was put feelers out about borrowing a car.
(for those of you who have never been to Calgary, my darling hometown has one of the WORST transit systems I've ever encountered...even WORSE now that the city is bursting at the seams with it's current boom. So, although I have come to love NOT having a car in Toronto, and enjoy the health benefits...Calgary is a town that you kinda want a car in.)

Karen and Jerry went to work on my little request and came through with and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme!
I LOVE it. It takes me way back....
In my University days I drove a '77 Chevy Impala.
White. Red interior. Build like a tank. (I'm talking about the car...not myself;-)

My Cutlass Supreme:
White. Blue interior. Build like a tank!
I think it might be close to 10ft long!
The weird thing is that this monster of a car has side mirrors the size of my fist (tiny!), AND - the most delicate, slim, lady-like steering wheel I've ever seen. I'm amazed I'm able to move the wheels with it.
It has power locks (that don't work).
Power windows (the passanger window works).
Radio (good)
And - a cassette player!!!!

Now....
All I need is Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians and I'll be set!!!!

Thanks Karen and Jerry!
You're the BEST!

Escaping The Rabbit Hole...

Once again....far too long of a gap since my last post.
Lest any of you were worried that I had fallen into an alcoholic stupor, never to return - here I am:
on the wagon and ready to tackle 2008 with gusto and fervor! And yes - I got the red wine stains out of the sheets!

Quick updates:
My back is on the mend. After an MRI and several visits to a specialist we have come to learn that I have a slight herniation at L5 and S1. I am told that doing Pilates three times a week will put me well on the path to recovery and I should have few problems in future....Assuming of course, that I am able to commit to pilates 3x/wk. A challenge to be sure, as I am famous for starting things and not following through. ;-)

I am currently in Calgary as I have accepted a sessional position at the University of Calgary teaching Drama 300 (2nd year acting)! Crazy! Not something I ever dreamed I would end up doing...and so am THRILLED to be jumping into the deep end of the unknown. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE teaching. I know that I am a better human being when I teach - and so am grateful for this opportunity.

While in Calgary - I will also be turning my Spiegletent piece, "Blind Date", into a one act. My goal: to improvise with an audience member the entire course of a relationship from Blind Date until "death do us part"....over the course of 55 - 75 mintues. Am I totally insane? Perhaps....Does the thought scare me? INDEED - and so, it's something worth trying!

Also - oddly, this past week I received my first ever "official fan mail". I'm not sure how else to describe it. My agent received a letter from a Navy-man in the states, soon to be shipping out on a submarine, asking if I would be willing to send him an autographed picture for the sub's rec room. WEIRD! I am baffled. My body of work is small, and modest. I am left wondering if perhaps there wasnt' some bet amoungst the sailors to collect the most obscure, unheard of film/TV personalities and coax us into becoming the "Unknown Pin-Up Girls" of their submarine. My God - I am giggling at all of the details: pin-up girl, autographs, Navy-Men....what a delightful cliche!!!

I will leave off there for now....At the very least, I am back in the world of the online-living, and that's something....
